Redecorating my living-room!

Before couch

Within the past few months, I have moved into my new place and I felt it was only right to switch things up. In my previous apartment, I was originally going for the whole rustic look, but now I wanna add a little color and more industrial touches.

Before moving forward, I would like to briefly explain what these two design concepts are. Bottom-line when you hear rustic, just think farmhouse. Rustic designs often deal with a lot of wooden structures.
So pretty much anything from wooden wall décor or wooden furniture. Also with this design, I often think of neutral colors with like a hint of greenery. Of course, rustic décor is more rough- hence the word rustic, so people often incorporate "rustic metal" pieces throughout their home as well. There are so many different things you can do with this style and it can also go hand in hand with other designing style concepts.

On the other hand, when I think of industrial design, I instantly think of metal structures. This design is full of modern furniture, but yet still simplistic in nature. This design concept looks really good in buildings with exposed pipelines or brick walls and even buildings with concrete or wooden floors. Traditionally, many think of lofts, but realistically, this design style can go well with any layout and looks well in urban as well as rural settings.

PILLOWS:

For my living room, I decided to start with my couch. Normally, interior designers often say start with the rug, but for this instance, I already had my couch. The pillows that were originally on my couch came with it when I purchased it and went well with the rustic look I was going for so I had just decided to keep them, there was no need of changing them.

Anyways, so starting off, I knew I wanted to bring a little color into my living room, and the easiest way to do this was by changing the throw pillows that were on my couch. This was easy to do, as my couch is already gray, and literally any color compliments gray. I found these throw covers on amazon on prime day, I got the white and blue polka-dots throw for like 7 bucks apiece and the GOOD VIBES ONLY for like 10 bucks... not bad at all. I just stuffed my pillows with the cotton that were in the previous ones and here was the outcome.

This simple change of pillows brought so much light into my living room compared to the previous pillows that came with the couch.

RUG:

I am sure you noticed I don't have a rug just quite yet but trust and believe one will be present real soon lol. Instead of the traditional rectangle rug, I think I am going to go with a round rug since the space I am working with is small, but also because round rugs bring great character into rooms. Sticking to the same geometric shapes is just BORING! Round rugs are not only a great way to bring character into rooms but also help to make the space appear larger. They can be used when a simple square or rectangle area rug won't work. This normally occurs when the space layout is weird, so not your typical square walls... think of architecture that has curves in it.

I'll be sure to post pictures with my rug once I have it picked out. I am thinking of something simple and solid, not really too much going on since I already have the polka-dotted pillows.

Lastly, I also hung this industrial shelf that I also bought on amazon (if you can't tell I really love amazon). As I mentioned before, the industrial style looks very well with metal and exposed pipes. This was a cool way to add some of this style without actually living in a loft downtown. I also got to do a pretty fun DIY since it only included the piping. I ended up buying the wood for Home Depot and stained it.

I gotta say I am pretty pleased with how everything is turning out so far but there are still a few more things I wanna add to the living room... it isn't finished just yet but it's coming along I must say! I am definitely feeling this chic vibe and I cannot wait to see what it looks like when I am finished. I have so many ideas in my head but not enough money ugh!!!! Unfortunately, I have to get a little here and a little there every paycheck, so if you would like to buy something off my amazon wishlist please don't hesitate to email me! Jkjk, but it should but done within a month or so I think.

Stay tuned and be on the lookout for an update post, as well as other decorating opportunities that I will be doing!

And in all seriousness, if you wanna buy something off my wishlist email me :)!

  1. While the process of decorating a space as large as your living room may feel daunting, designing a space that will appeal to you and your family both in terms of form and function is easier than you may think.
